good morning at the top of the hour, this day is starting off nicely unless you're a federal worker on furlough i guess. sharon is watching traffic. it's meteorologist tim williams in for marty bass over at first warning weather. we're starting off with temperatures around 60 degrees en route to a high of 84. warm with sun and some clouds. the over night lows staying around 60 degrees. we'll go into your first friday of october at 87. our first chance of any rain or thunderstorms that we've had in a while. that will be tomorrow.

87 degrees though. some parts of the area south of the metro could see temperatures close to 90. your complete first warning weather forecast coming up. how about the roadways this thursday morning? here is sharon gibala at wjz traffic control. >> we're mostly seeing 50s and 60s on the roads this morning. there's a look at your speed sensors around the area. lots of mid 50s. a couple of lower 60s out there. the average speed on the beltway still 55 as it should be. same goes for 95 southbound between pretty much white marsh and the tunnel. that's a look at 95 at 395 running smoothly. there's a look at everything running smoothly if you're headed out on 95 south of campbell. now wjz has the stories people are talking about this morning. here's don. >> thank you. the government shut enters day three after a meeting between congressional leaders and the president that failed to produce any budget agreement. wjz has complete coverage of the shut down for you.

navy game will go on. >> the set up for the big navy and air force game went on as scheduled wednesday. it was unclear if it would take place. >> i never thought that it would get anywhere near football. >> the partisan gridlock in washington is causing shock waves nationwide. it's impacting a broad range of government workers, private citizens and even the sports programs at the military service academies. late last night game the news that the teams and the fans were hoping for. a naval academy spokesperson said the game will not be canceled, a relief for tens of thousands of people who already bought tickets. >> they said it's not going to happen. >> the government shut down is effecting academics at the naval academy. 930 faculty and staff are being furloughed. no teachers, no class. >> some of us showed up and just studied. others were told not to go to class so they just

stayed in their rooms. >> reporter: now, because that game is paid for by funds that are not appropriated by congress it will be allowed to continue. i'm mike schuh reporting live downtown. back to you. >> thank you. stay with wjz for complete coverage of the government shutdown. the president plans to visit a construction company in montgomery county today to talk about the shut down's effect on small businesses. the latest on that and the ongoing negotiations here on wjz 13. baltimore city police are on the look out for their newest public enemy number one. 26-year-old christopher good is wanted for attempted murder and domestic violence. last month good stabbed the mother of his child 10 times, killing her. officers believe good is still in south baltimore. they say he's to be considered armed and dangerous. anyone with information on him and his whereabouts is asked to call baltimore city police. in tennessee eight people are dead, more than a dozen injured in a crash involving a church bus.

it happened on interstate 40 in jefferson county, tennessee. the bus blew a tire, veered across the median and crashed into a tractor trailer. 6 seniors on the bus are dead. a man accused of setting off a bloody road rage incident between a group of motorcycle riders appears in a new york city courtroom. 28-year-old christopher cruz is charged with reckless driving. he's slowing down his bike leading the suv to clip it. >> his motorcycle was struck and he stood right there. he never assaulted this man, never tried to assault him and he does not know any of the other motorcyclists involved in this beating. >> police say the driver who was in the suv with his wife and 2-year-old was beaten by the

riders. that man ran over one of the bikers and may have left him paralyzed. sad news about one of the world's best selling authors. tom clancy, who was born and lived here in baltimore, died at johns hopkins after a brief illness. mary bubala has more on his literary legacy. >> as one of the most successful writers of military and political thrillers of all times, tom clancy kept readers on the edge of their seats. news of his death at just 66 years old has shocked his fans across the world and here at home. >> it's a huge fan base of people, particularly male readers of action, they're going to feel a sense of sadness. >> clancy was a minority owner in the orioles, throwing out the first pitch in 1994. >> when i get involved i get involved. that's my team now. i have to watch and make sure they do it right.

the airport for 5 hours but no explosives were found. another man was arrested for acting suspiciously in the same airport around the same time but police say that appears to be unrelated now. the search is on in baltimore county for who shot two men inside a home in middle river. as meghan mccorkell explains, one of the wounded uses a wheelchair. >> good morning. that shooting happened around 4 :40 yesterday afternoon and police say they do not know how many suspects they're looking for. >> police surround a middle river hope. >> it's scary. it makes you want to keep your kids in the house. >> investigators come this community on south thorn road after two men are found shot inside a house. friends identify them as father and son, butch and brandon jewel. >> it's breaking anying -- my heart. >> steven street said brandon jewel in his late 20s is in a wheelchair. >> it's just heartless. i mean, he's the kind est person i

know. why would somebody do that to brandon? >> the shooting appears to be a robbery attempt. detectives say the thieves knew what they were after. >> right now we continue to investigate to determine what exactly happened. it appears they were targeted. >> witnesses tell wjz the robbers broke in through the back of the house. witnesses saw the suspects running down the alley with a shotgun after the shooting. >> we'll have forensics go into the house to try to determine how they got into the house. >> neighbors shaken by the shooting just hope the gunmen are caught soon. >> i think they need to be thrown under a jail. >> until they are, this community remains on edge. >> again, police believe that father and son were targeted. at this point no arrests have been made. meghan mccorkell, wjz eyewitness news. >> brandon jewel is listed in serious condition at johns hopkins. both he and his father are expected to survive.

in anne arundel county police are trying to figure out how an suv ended up inside a home yesterday. it happened near thomas road and country club drive in glen burnie. police say the suv left the road and crashed right into the house, stopping just inside the living room. nobody is hurt. right now no charges have been filed. a los angeles jury rules against michael jackson's family in the negligence lawsuit filed against the singer's concert promoter. here is teresa garcia. >> hand the verdict form to the court. >> after a 5-month trial a los angeles jury found that concert promoter aeg live was not responsible for the death of michael jackson at the hands of the doctor it hired to prepare him for his series of concerts, meaning a victory for the defense. >> ult -- ultimately it wasn't aeg's live making. >> michael jock on

jackson's mother and kids sued aeg live. they said the promoters of the singer's come back concert negligently hired and supervised conrad murray, who was convicted of voluntary manslaughter. >> we, of course, are not happy with the result. we will be exploring all options legally. >> jurors say they carefully reviewed thousands of documents and listened to months of testimony. they say ultimately the verdict came down to dr. murray's competence. >> we felt he was competent to do the job of being a general practitioner. now, that doesn't mean that we felt he was ethical. >> aeg live argued that the company had no way of knowing murray was giving jackson the powerful drug that killed him. on the witness stand jackson's 82-year-old mother said when she lost michael she lost everything. >> teresa garcia, wjz eyewitness news. >> catherine jackson did not speak to the media after the

warmer air. that's going to continue to tap into a warm air mass. our southern states are warm aer -- are warmer than we are so we're getting that flow. our next weather maker is going to come by way of a two-part system. a warm front comes in tomorrow. then a cold front will help to bring in potentially showers and maybe even a thunderstorm in our forecast by tomorrow. the way it comes through here, the warm air stays with it. the cold front then zips through. because of all that spins we have the dynamics, the instability and the chance for some showers. it will just be unstable going into the next few days. with your sunset today at 6:45, the day is getting shorter and shorter, even though our temperatures seem to be going up. 84 degrees today. very warm with sun and clouds. over night lows down around 59 degrees with partly cloudy skies. tomorrow is the day we could see the chance of showers in spots. widely scattered showers, primarily in the

later episodes that my ex-wife is the anchor at the station. i'm doing a story and throw it back to her in the studio. you can see the tense relationship as i'm kind of like, well, janice back to you and she makes jokes at my expense that are hard-hitting and throwing salt on the wound. that's a funny angle. and just how hard it is to be a reporter and go out there and cover stores that might not be the most interesting. >> anything you think we should tune into or watch this season, character development wise or anything that you are really proud of? >> i think the whole season. you should tune into the entire season. >> i think thursday night at 8:30 you watch the miller's on cbs that you're going to find that you're going to grow as a person. if you like to laugh,
